CMS finalizes delay of radiation oncology model

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has finalized an indefinite delay in the start date of its radiation oncology model, according to a final rule published yesterday. AHA had urged CMS to delay the model’s launch, which was scheduled for January 2023, writing that the agency’s stated goal of using the model to ensure fair, predictable payment for radiation oncologists “has been marred by the incorporation of significant payment cuts and substantial administrative burdens for those participating in this mandatory model.” CMS will set a new start date through future rulemaking.
